SoC: The Crystalling

It is a new season and time for my Stream Of Conscience reviews. For anyone not familiar with these, they are reactionary observations from watching an episode for the first time. Most of the observations are tongue in cheek and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. When I first started these, they were just bullet points for each observation. Then I started linking to youtube videos for a lot of the pop culture references I use and started adding screenshots. I only did this for the first half of the season so I’m happy to be doing them for a whole season. I couldn’t go back and do the ones I didn’t do because the caveat for my SoC reviews are that I can have no prior knowledge of the episode I’m reviewing. Therefore I’ve tried to avoid spoilers at all cost however, in this fandom that’s not always possible so as long as I don’t know the bulk of the episode, I can do one of these. So without further ado, lets dive into the first episodes of the 6^th season of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic:

*We begin with the newest member of the mane cast, Starlight Glimmer, looking for the castle library.


*I guess it’s like Snoopy’s dog house.


*What the hell is up with that look Spike?


*Yeah Starlight, that was not a pretty sight.

*I can’t believe it either. You should be in jail. Or at the least doing community service.

*You would think they would have given us a new intro… but you’d be wrong.

*Awkward! This episode seems intent on adding more Spike abuse.


*Um Spike, do you remember last episode? The whole reason for her anger?

*Hey Spike! Stay out of other pony’s flashbacks! At least we know he remembers the rest of the story.


*Anypony could get lost in there. I don’t think even Twilight knows her way completely around the castle.

*Good lord woman, give the poor guy a break! He already had to deal with your veracious appetite and violent mood swings during the pregnancy. Cut him some slack.

*If a unicorn father, an alicorn aunt, and Pinkie Pie can’t handle her. I doubt little Miss Fusspot with a butterfly net can.

Well all in all this was a pretty good opening to the season. We are introduced to the fully reformed Starlight and the newborn and mind numbingly adorable Flurry Heart. Maybe not as strong an opening as last season but hopefully this season will pick up and become just as good. Hopefully my review turns out to be good, it was hard to get back into the swing of things and I started capturing too many screenshots (the first 15 minutes took me an hour to do) but I was able to reel them in.

I will close this off and every subsequent review with extra screenshots with captions. I re-did my older reviews that had none and the ones that didn’t match my thoughts, I put in at the end like this. This will take over the random screenshots of the other reviews (which I’m contemplating on updating as well):
